As a finance professional and owner of BARKA & COMPANY, Johnnie's background includes knowledge and experience in "Big Four" and hands-on corporate accounting. His areas of expertise encompass auditing, all phases of accounting, business processes, internal and external reporting, revenue and accounts receivable analysis, general ledger manage-ment, payroll administration, accounts payable management and credit and collection.
For the past ten years, including on-going participation as a Solano College SBDC consultant, Barber has offered professional advice, accounting and financial services to a variety of small businesses. He readily assists at SBDC events and mentors for the NxLeveL Entrepreneurial Training Program.
ERVIN FLOYD HICKS
Over the span of his 25-year banking career, Floyd served the last 16 years as Vice President and Senior Lending Officer of Oakland Business Development Corporation, a local development company. His duties included providing management, technical advice and financing to the small business community. Financing instruments included the City of Oakland HUD program loans; and, U.S. Small Business Administration 504,7a and Women and Minority Pre-Qualificaton Loan Programs. In addition, Hicks was successful in obtaining the U.S. Small Business Administration Miro-Loan Program for use in Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara and Solano counties.
For the past several years, Floyd Hicks has provided SBDC clients business planning, financial projections assistance and review in addition to technical help and advice on qualifying and applying for financing to start, buy or expand Solano County businesses. Hicks also provides small business mentoring to individuals and business owners through the SBDC's monthy Small Business Clinic.
CHARLES M. MONAHAN
Charlie is a former restaurant owner, corporate trainer and operations manager with over 20 years experience in the food service industry. His areas of responsibility included new product development, new store openings (40+), management duties and employee trainee programs. In addition, Charlie has analyzed financial and operational performance on many different types of businesses.
As a Solano College SBDC consultant, Monahan has financially analyzed local businesses to help clients improve margins, increase profitability as well as identify, implement and monitor strategies and processes to improve overall business operations. Examples of his work include helping clients complete business and marketing plans for financing and lease acquisition. Charlie's clients also use their business plans as road maps for growth and development of their business to their "next" level of success.
Another of Monahan's strengths is helping businesses address human resources issues such as developing job descriptions, employee evaluations, HR manuals, training materials and employee or customer surveys. His motto is "Achieve quality and profitability by linking goals to people with respect and effective communication.
Charlie Monahan earned his MBA in strategic leadership through Dominican University. He often staffs the SBDC's monthly Small Business Clinic and serves as mentor to start-up and existing business owners participating in the SBDC's NxLeveL Entrepreneurial Program.
RANDALL SHORES
With over 20 years consulting experience, Randy specializes in small business and marketing. He has served as a Solano Community College small business instructor for 13 years and is the author of the book, Starting and Managing a Small Business. In 1973, Randy founded Marketing Research Consultants, which quickly became the largest full-service market research firm in Sacramento. In 1984, he sold the firm to one of his clients.
Randy has owned other successful businesses including a real estate investment and development firm, a marketing company and a wholesale distribution company. He has served at the highest levels of California state and local government, has two management degrees and has attended law school.
ARTHUR WASHINGTON
Arthur is the author of BUSINESS PLANS FOR FINANCING and Executive Director of the Business Resource Center, a Northern California-based financial publisher. He currently serves as Vice President of Nor-Cal FDC, a state-chartered small business financial development corporation providing direct loans and loan guaranties. In his various roles as a business analyst, author, consultant and instructor, Arthur provides expertise in finance, marketing and strategic planning.
Arthur is a veteran financial services industry insider. Early in his career, he was employed as a personal financial planner with IDS Financial Services (now part of American Express) and Charles Schwab. He is also a former stockbroker and State of California licensed realtor. As a SBA Certified Loan Officer, he reviewed and approved over $75 million in loans to small business.
